What is the cheese market in Alkmaar?

The Cheese Market in Alkmaar is a recreation of how the cheese market took place in the 16th century. You see a square full of cheeses. The cheeses are moved using berries: a type of wooden carrying structure between two cheese carriers. Traders negotiate the price. In the canals, you see small boats with cheese. The cheese carriers wear special clothing, and there are cheese girls in traditional costume. All in all, it is a spectacle to behold. During the cheese market, you are informed about everything that is happening.
On the edge of the Waagplein and in the street next to it, there is a general market for enthusiasts. Naturally, you can also buy cheese there.
